Vic Marriages

Where can I look for a marriage in Melbourne, 1970's I think? Can I search with only the brides name? Can I also look up children of the marriage? I haven't done anything on this family for a while and would like to bring it up to date if possible. All suggestions welcome!

gives these Family History Indexes available
births (1853 to 1924)
marriages (1853 to 1942)
deaths (1853 to 1985)
Church baptisms, marriages and burials 1836 to 1853
Births, Deaths and Marriages on board ships coming to Victoria from 1853 to 1920, including ship's names. (Marine indexes)

but you have to pay to search them. Some of us can help as we have them on disk, but the disks do not cover quite as many years of births or deaths.

So 1970 and more recent is not available for marriages and births.

The only way you might have any luck is do a search for the person in see if they have to phone on.


the link is put the surname in then the state and it will give you all possible ones there.

Thanks ozybob but I only know the maiden surnames of the brides and their husbands christian names. The only thing I can think of at the moment is wedding announcements in the newspaper. What do you think?

Were the parents in Australia?  To search the papers you would need to know the date of marriage. 

Electoral Rolls can be searched, but prior to 1991 you need to know the approximate location of the family.

Yes parents were living in Flemington Ave, Nth Melbourne until early 1970's (well mum anyway). Surname Booth. I have all this info but would like to find out who the daughters married. From mums death notice in 1974 I have
Daughter 1- Constance, son in law Vin and Grandson Dean.
Daughter 2 - Greta, son in law Adrian and grandchildren Mark, Peter and Kathy.
I have photographs of the two girls when they were young and some of Connies son Dean but thats all I know about them.

If thats the case you might have to try and add in the local paper there in North Melbourne or Victoria main one Sydney Morning Heard, The Age there in Victoria I don't know to many papers there in Victoria, But some out there might know more then me there about the Papers in Victoria Liverpool Lass.

I am assuming  you  have a  copy  of  the  funeral  notice?

what about  contacting  the funeral directors  they  could very  well tell  you  who  arranged the  funeral  etc chances  are  it  was  one or  both of  the  daughters (  no  husband alive?)
