Help in reading name, please. SORTED THANKS
« on: Friday 23 March 07 19:40 GMT (UK) »
Below is an extract of the 1891 census.
I would appreciate some help in reading the last name.
I think that the enumerator has got a little enthusiastic with his ditto marks as I don't think that her surname is Younger. But before I discount it completely I want to check the relevant birth records.
Ancestry has interpreted the name as Margaret Cargert Younger, but I'm not so sure.

Merideth.
Well according to the census she is aged 29 and born in England and I can't find anyone with the name Cargert.
The best I can come up with is a Margaret Corkrey in Bermondsey Q1 1861.

Hi Peter  :)

Is it possible to put up a bit more of the page please? I'm not sure that the the first letter is a 'C'. It doesn't join up as the one on the previous line and does have a slight kink on the lower loop. I'm wondering if it could be an L.

Largey , Langey  :-\

In the IGI all the names with the exception of four are spelled LARGIE;
The four are spelled LARGEY whereas there is only one CARGEY, the rest being CARGIE.

Just go to modify and uncheck the image below the text  -or ask a Mod!

However, Peter, I thought you might be watching thecricket, so I went in myself and found an L but the loops are different, so it is a C.

I've checked the 1901 and marriages but can't find her in Scotland - did she moveback to Engalnd and marry there - worth a try.
