Thanks Cathy,

She's emailed me again with some more potential links. I told her genealogy should have a "Health Warning" as it is addictive and takes over your life, apparently it makes you gain weight as well as it causes inactivity. Mind you my kids have got thinner as I keep forgetting to feed them! :-[

What I need is an exercise-bike-chair.

I'm thrilled to bits with my new Cuz! ;D

No, what we need is for some clever so and so to invent a treadmill with built in laptop that not only tells us how many calories we've burned, but also lets us get on with our research online.  Obviously it would need a printer attached so we could print out census returns etc - maybe the printer could be powered by leg-action, thus giving us an incentive to train harder!   ;D ;D ;D

Wow that's an excellent idea Mrs Lizzy, I never was a fan of Exercise Bike's, but a good walk with laptop in tow, now that's sounds right up my street.

Start drawing up the designs and I'll apply for the patent. They'll go down a storm on here! ;D ;D

Well if you can use a treadmill while watching tv, listening to music or reading a magazine (and I've done the first and second and seen someone else do the third!) why can't you use a laptop?  Of course it may take a while to get the hang of using the keyboard whilst wobbling along on the treadmill at 6 kilometres per hour (actually mine won't go fast enough - nowhere near fast enough to run - I have to be content with a very brisk walk!)

Well!
Believe it or not, just trudged to my email postbox, usual no expectation,s.BUT,there was a mention of my maternal surname!!
So,prepared to repel boarder,s,I opened in the 'Save' section,no worrie,s,a nugget of info from a S.I.L. of the family!
Only general info as yet,but who know,s what may follow?
Prior to all this,Ihad read the fore going post,s and rejoiced for you,and thinking,I could use some of that euphoria!!

Congrats. I have found several distants in the past year. The last one I found sent me original pictures of my gr gr grandparents, and a picture of them with 12 of their children, and she sent me a copy of my gr gr gr grandparents marriage certificate (she has the original). And all except one have been incredibly nice people.

Some great stories on this thread of others meeting "cousins" and distant relatives. I'd love to find one on Rootschat, I always check the surname interests attached to some Rootschatter's postings - ever hopeful.

I've sent a photo of a common ancestor to my new "cuz" and she's offered me lots of help, but she doesn't want to give me everything she's got as she feels it'd spoil some of the fun of discovering it myself (my little voice was saying inside my head, "No give it all to me, you aren't there when I'm banging my head against the proverbial brick wall!" ;D) When my nana lends me the rest of the family photo's I'm going to send "cuz" some more copies.

By the way, my partner oiled the wheels of my computer chair so I was able to whizz about between my hand written family tree, family history folders and the computer getting my much needed exercise. All was going well until I  bumped into the dog and almost fell off. It gave everyone a huge laugh, but I certainly wouldn't recommend it as a form of entertainment or exercise. Good for an adrenalin rush though! (I really should get out more) :-\
