A little more of Worksop's social history. If your dad had any children whilst living in Retford your gran would probably have been delivered by "Nurse Shooter" (she was known by her maiden name). My grandma went into service for her. They used to drive all over in a pony and trap to visit pregnant women.

Michelle ;D

Blimey now that IS interesting - my Dad was born in 1934 in Worksop so now I know who delivered him!!

Now that's not a fact you get to learn every day LOL

Must send my Mum an email (Dad's a techno-phobe)  ;)

Greetings Michelle,
I was so excited to see your posting. My dad was born in Worksop. So I have heaps of names in the place. If there are any MOORE, BLOWER, BOOTH  in that magazine, I am most interested.
Thanking you

Hi Eds,

This is the third time I've tried to post back to you with another page of my magazine attached. Unfortunately it was too big (KB) and wouldn't attach. I've had to wait for a friend to visit, he's reduced it in size, cropped it and sharpened it - fabulous!!! I'm hopeless at technical stuff.

You'll see that there is a Mrs Booth and a Mrs Moore involved in fundraising for the church community. I hope you can discover whether or not they're your relatives. I assume you've already spotted "M. BOOTH" on a previous page?

Enjoy.

Ta muchly Michelle, I know what you mean about techo stuff. I see a couple of other lines names also. Godley and Frith. I know the Moore family were involved with church activities so Mrs Moore is bound to be a rellie of some type.
I see you have BINGHAM.I found some in my twigs recently, from Cowley.

Thanks again... appreciate your help

Hi Eds,

Glad my little magazine has proved to be of interest to you.

There are about 6 Cowley's in the UK and as far as I know none of my relatives went to any of them (most Cowley's are south of where I know my BINGHAM's to be). My lot (to my knowledge) were based in Sheffield, but in 1881 there were 12 BINGHAM's living in Sheaf Gardens Terrace, 9 were children, 3 of which were boys.

I suppose any one of them could have moved to Cowley. I'm directly related to one of the girls so the name changed upon marriage. I'd be interested if we share relatives, however distant, I love adding rellies!

Cheers,

Michelle  ;D
