Let's remember that RootsChat is a
genealogical forum - not a general conversational forum.
And that boards like The Lighter Side and Totally Off Topic Bit have been established for those who enjoy conversations with fellow genealogists about non-genealogical matters - and they are great boards with plenty of differing views and are lots of fun.
On the genealogical boards, thread drift - from one genealogical topic to another genealogical topic - is fine (usually); however thread drift into non-genealogical topics can be rather unfair to those who, for whatever reason, want to confine their ventures into RootsChat to genealogical topics. It can be quite irritating to get notifications (or - if one has turned off notifications - to find listed in new replies) posts after posts after posts which have nothing whatsoever to do with the topic to which one has contributed and nothing whatsoever to do with genealogy.
Worth thinking about?
