Edward&Rachel Hall
« on: Sunday 25 March 07 23:36 BST (UK) »
Edward & Rachel came to Australia from Gillingham with six of their children in 1857. Have located them on the 1841 census at Linterne Cottage,East Stower, Shafetsbury, and have found  the births of their children on the I.G.I. I am trying to find Edward & Rachel's parents. Have found a marriage which I believe may be theirs from the Dorset Gillingham opc. which says: 1829 01-Jan Edward Hall of Buckhorn Weston;parental consent & Rachel Hall otp.
Hoping someone may be able to give me some direction as to were to look now.

regards

you say they emigrated in 1857?? therefore they should be in the 1851 cencus unfortunately i cannot seem to find them.that would give us a place of birth for rachel.unfortunately just because a marriage record states of this parish does not necessarily mean she was born there just that she was residing there at the time of her marriage.are you sure they emigrated after 1851?
i see youngest son samuel was baptised in 1845 at east stower dorset.were the baptisms member submitted or from actual registers? if they were member submitted then i can post the actual baptisms from the registers.all the children except edwin seem to be listed

The marriage in 1829 is between Edward Hall and Rachel Hall.
Samuel and Mary Hall also had a son Edward in 1806, so let's hope they weren't the ones marrying!
(Agewise, Edward is more likely than Rachel - especially as one of the IGI entries suggests he died in Penfield, South Australia in 1877!).
There is a Rachel, b Stockland, Dorset, 1812 (wherever Stockland is).

edward born 1806 and marrying in 1829 would not have required parental consent as was stated at marriage .parental consent meant he was under 21yrs old at time of marriage.as i say the 51 will tell us where the pair came from.so where are they in 1851??
any suggestions anyone?

If Samuel turns out to be Edward's father, he appears to be living in Gillingham in 1841, aged 90+, with another son, Samuel.

Thanks for the replies re.Edward&Rachel,
Frances: the Rachel Hall christened 1798 Gillingham is the one I have, but alli has found another as you can see.
alli: I have since found they arrived in aust. in 1848 on the Westminster and went to South Australia.(Sorry I had the wrong Info.)I'm not sure how I distinguish who Rachel's parents are perhaps the birth you found in 1812 is the one I'm looking for.
Richard: I have tried to do a bit research and have a thought that Edwards parents may be James&Mary Hall (I guess this raises the same question as to who Rachel's parents are!)birth 1806, but then that raises another question if this is him why he would need parental consent when he married Rachel Hall in 1829.
The Samuel aged 90 in the 1841 is not Edward's father, but another Edward actually Samuel is my gggg grandfather.
I don't know if this makes sense I think I am beginning to confuse myself with all these Edwards,Samuels and Rachel's.
I would  like to thank you all for answering my original query.
