Ledsam of Edgbaston 1841 -91 COMPLETED THANKS
« on: Monday 26 March 07 22:21 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me find this Ledsam family in any of the above census. In 1891 they are at 214, Hagley Road.

Ann m Ledsam  wid  57  lvg own means   bn  B'ham
Henry F C S  Ledsam son 26  act clerk law  bn Edgbaston
Charlotte E A Ledsam dau 28                             "
Alice M S  Ledsam        dau 25                               "
Wm. F J  Ledsam         son  22 clerk                     "
Ed. Alf. G S  Ledsam   son  21  undergrad. Oxon   "
Eleanor LC C Ledsam  neice 23 lvng owmn means   "

With all the children born in Edgbaston they seem to have a fairly stable location & mum & 3 children are still there in 1901, but I have drawn a blank in 1881 & earlier. I suppose the children may have been away at school in 1881 but where is Ann?
Would be pleased to find them on just one census. Can anyone help please?

Check out this family on the 1881 living in Edgbaston

Joseph Leddam
1824
born B'ham  - 1st page

William Leddam 1869 B'ham, Warwickshire - 2nd page

It covers 2 pages and on the second page the surname looks like Ledsam

 RG11 2955; Folio 10 Page 11
.
Give me a shout if you can't find it

Thanks Tricia you're a star. Now I just feel dumb & not for the first time!! Having the father's name is a bonus & a French cousin too.
     Many thanks.

On the 1841 there is a Joseph Ledsam age 17, Boarding pupil at the King Edward School, New St, Birmingham

Name spelt clearly - doesn't help with parents, though

Hi Tricia,
I don't know what to say!! Can I send you my tree? I'm sure you'd have it all finished by the end of the week!! A previous marriage too! But he certainly favoured Hagley Road, just couldn't decide which house he liked best!! Wouldn't mind 6 servants myself. Thank you doesn't seem enough but THANK YOU you're a star.
Oh my word now you've posted an entry from 1851. Well it's a possibility but he doesn't sound like the sort of man that got his hands dirty to me. I shall attempt to look at FreeBMD for the death of a Ledsam wife but I'll have to leave it until tomorrow as some of us need sleep to miss these entries!!
Whoops there you go again yes, the 1841 census entry must be him & I expect you'll have his parents for me before I can sign off, what is your secret? Do you have sat.nav for census entries?
     You certainly are an expert,
      Thanks again
          Kay

This is really sad - went to bed thinking of your Joseph and realised that Mil on the 1871 is really Nil as in 'no occupation' ;D ;D

Funny you should say that about his parents - his birth is on the IGI on Family Search and it is an extracted record from the Parish records so should be accurate
