Maiden name
« on: Monday 26 March 07 22:50 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find the maiden name of Margaret Bowden.  Married Robert Bowden and had a daughter Isabella in 1832. Unaware of any other children or which particular part of Northumberland they came from.

At the moment can't even find where I got this information from - am I losing the plot!

Can anyone help, please?

Thanks

Dear Confused, maybe,

Here is some information that might help you get back on track

1841 census
HO107/313/14 folio 53 page 20
Thornley
Queen Street
Robert Bowden, 35, Coal Miner, N [Not born in Co. Durham]
Margaret Bowdon, 40, N
John Bowdon, 11, N  [asterick in occupation column might be coal miner]
Isabella Bowdon, 9, N
Jane Bowdon, 7, N
Ann Bowdon, 5, Y
Robert Bowdon, Y

1851 census
HO107/2398 folio 15 page 23
Township Monkwearmouth, Borough Sunderland
Mile Row
Robert Bowden, Head, Mar, 50, Coal miner, Northumberland Walls End?
Margaret Bowden, Wife, 52, Northumberland Walls End?
John Bowden, Son Unm, 20, Coal Miner, Northumberland Walls End?
Isabella Newton, Daur, Mar, 18, Northumberland Walls End?
Jane Bowden, Daur, Unm, 16 Northumberland Cramlington
Ann Bowden, Daur, 14, Durham Haswell
Robert Bowden, Son, 10, Durham Moorsley
Mary Bowden, Daur, 9, Durham Thornley

All of the Northumberland Walls End were ditto's of the first one and it is hard to read if it is Walls End or Wales End.

There is a marriage of a Robert Bowdon and Margaret Sanderson in Gateshead 28 Oct 1826.

Cramlington baptisms:
Jane Bowdon 6 April 1835 d/o Robert and Margaret

Wallsend baptism:
John Bowdon 23 July 1831 s/o Robert and Margaret

Kelloe St. Helen baptism
19 Sep 1841 Mary Bowden, of Thornley, 5th daughter of Robert Bowden (Pitman) & Margaret Sanderson

West Rainton baptism:
Robert Bowden  two dates--9 Sept 1839 and 30 Oct 1839 s/o Robert and Margaret  [there will probably be a notation on the parish record about this double entry

Sorry I couln't find Isabella baptism.  I think the 1861 census if I have the right person--Isabella Newton wife of John was born Wallsend RG9/3748 folio 12 page 31.

There is a baptism of a Mary Ann Bowdon in Newcastle All Saints for 28 June 1828 d/o Robert and Margaret.  That might be the first daughter making Mary the 5th daughter.

This information should help keep your thinking straight.

Hi  Janis

That certainly seems to be my family and yes that is Isabella in the 61, she married John Newton in 1850, so a good link to her family in the 51 census!

I normally make sure I put my info in a file if not on my family tree programme and I searched high and low last night and couldn't find any of the Bowden info, so your contribution helps a lot.

Thanks
Joanna

Wallsend Parish marriages from 1813-1837 are online
(GenUKI site) But no sign of any Bowden...
.. in date order, not surname alpha order.
