Military website for 18th century?
« on: Wednesday 28 March 07 14:54 BST (UK) »
Can anyone point me in the direction of a website which would help me locate a late 18th century regiment made up of Buckinghamshire men?

I'm getting very desperate to try and forge a link between an ancestor in Great Marlow, Bucks whose marriage I just can't find in or around Bucks - but I can find a marriage that fits the bill (names and date) but it's miles away in Bristol. Unfortunately, a look at the marriage entry in Bristol wasn't much help - both bride and groom being described as 'of this parish'.

The Bristol marriage took place in 1797 and it occurred to me that the groom might possibly have been a soldier!!

Told you I was desperate!!  :-[

Hi Jill, you may get a reply if this was posted on the Armed Forces Board I think?
maybe ask a moderator to move it, or repost it? They are really helpful (and nice) on that board.

there doesn't appear to be much on Buckinghamshire Military as is said on one site. I did however find these two, don't know if it is the type of information you are looking for :-\

Jill,
To be honest, you could be looking at any regiment at this stage.
Perhaps if you can tell us his name, some dates and any other clues you have we can advise you where to look next  :) :)
