INFANTRY BARRACKS NEW WINDSOR 1851
« on: Wednesday 28 March 07 23:27 BST (UK) »
Can anyone tell me how I can find which Regiment George Baker (born 1828 Chenis Bucks) was in.  He is listed in the 1851 Census at the Infantry Barracks New Windsor as a Private Soldier. I have traced him in the 1871 census (and subsequent census) married to Margaret with a family of 7 children one of which Charles M Baker aged 7 was born in Montreal Canada - so presumably the regiment was serving in Canada around 1864.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks - Eve ???

Hi Eve and Welcome to Rootschat  ;D

In subsequent census was he is Canada or elsewhere?

It might be worth you asking a moderator to move your query to "The Armed Forces Board" where you might get a better pick up on your enquiry........just a thought.......

Hi Wendi  :)

Thanks for the welcome and such a speedy reply.  In the subsequent census's the family including Charles were living in Surrey.

Thanks for your advice but as new to this wonderful site could you tell me how to "ask a moderator to move the query to Armed Forces Site"  ::)

Many thanks - Eve

Hi Eve

The easiest was is probably for you to click on the "report to moderator" link that is on the bottom right hand side of any of the posts here and just type a short note requesting the post to be moved to Armed Forces
