le Pelley
« on: Thursday 29 March 07 00:50 BST (UK) »
I would like to find out about the family of Pierre le Pelley, born in the Channel Islands (I think Guernsey) about 1810. He married Henriette Dorey from Alderney. Pierre's father's name was Nicholas (or Nicolas) and I believe he came from Guernsey too

Thanks so much, Emma. Yes, I had seen that census entry, but I think it's the parish records I need really because I want to find the name of Nicholas's wife, and whether he had any children in addition to Pierre.

The same man in 1841 - might just help!

High Street,  St Peter Port,  Guernsey

Nicholas Lepelley, 68, Leather Merchant, Guernsey
Catherine Lepelley, 58, Jersey
Catherine Ellen Lepelley, 19, Guernsey
Nancy Lepelley, 17, Servant, Guernsey

There is a 'family line' separating Catherine Ellen from Nancy.

That's brilliant, Emma. Thanks a million! What would be the significance of the "family line"?

At the edge of the list of names there is a double diagonal dash to separate households, and a single diagonal dash to separate family groups within that household - there was one of these between Catherine Ellen and Nancy.  It says she was a servant, so was she from the family and working elsewhere, or working for Nicholas and family?

Thanks. I hope I'll be able to find out who Nancy was sooner or later. Thanks again for your help.

Hi - I have a Nicolas Le Pelley b.1772 - in Catel, Guernsey,  in 'my' family tree.  His father was Helier Le Pelley b. 1732 and m. Judith Lihou b.1725.  I have quite a lot of information on this Guernsey family, which I will be happy to share if you think there is a link - but unfortunately I don't have any details on Pierre b.1810.

You are right about the parish records - which are available on microfilm in the Priaulx Library in St Peter Port, but I don't think they are acccessible anywhere else.

Thanks very much for that, Mike. I'm very hopeful it might be the right family, and would be very interested in any further information you have.
Best regards
Wilja
