Thanks both for the tips. Yes the Will is interesting, mentioning George Hart, also son Harvey. His name crops up a lot on roads and bridges documents - I wonder was he also an engineer/surveyor like his brother in law Saml.

In the brown box at the bottom of each RootsChat page is a link to surname interests - you could enter your Crakanthorp surname and then anyone coming along in the future can see who is researching. Might be helpful.

Is this Samuel the son of Benjamin Crakanthorp of Bocking? In his will (PCC 1800) Benjamin mentions a son Samuel.

Mead - Herts, Bucks, Essex
Pontifex - Bucks
Goldhurst - London, Middx, Herts
Kellogg/Kelhog - Essex, Cambs

Thanks Vance
Yes this is the same - Benjamin d1799. Samuel was the only offspring that I'm aware of, b 1751.
Can you please give me the reference to the Will as I have not come across it?
Many thank
Oliver

That's available from TNA Discovery (PROB 11/1338/142):

https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/results/r?_aq=crakanthorp&_cr=prob&_dss=range&_ro=any&_st=adv

His wife was Mary of Bocking (1794) and his uncle was Samuel of Bocking (1754).

I saw in Wikitree that they are descended from John Crakanthorp, rector of Foulmere, Cambs.

I just added some bio info from John Venn's Alumni Cantabrigienses:

CRAKINTHORP, JOHN. Adm. pens, at Trinity. Apr. 12, 1658. Matric. 1660; Scholar, 1661; B.A. 1661-2; M.A. 1665. R. of Foulmere, Cambs., 1667. Father of the next.

CRAKANTHORP, JOHN. Adm. sizar (age 16) at Sidney, June 6, 1689. 1st s. of John, above, R. of Foulmere, Cambs. B. there. School, Felsted. Matric. 1690; B.A. 1692-3; M.A. 1696. Ord. deacon (Norwich) June, 1696.

Thanks I didn't know that about John the younger.
Descended from Richard Crakenthorpe who was rector at Black Notley

Richard is the family link to the Crakanthorpe's of Westmoreland - Shire Knights and Sheriffs.
