CUTTER Family - Ickworth/Ixcer? Suffolk
« on: Saturday 31 March 07 20:31 BST (UK) »
Hi

My gr x3 grandmother Mary Ann Cutter is down on the censuses as being born in Ixworth or Ixcer.  It varies on each one.  She married in Hockham in 1836.  I haven't found anything else about her yet.  Any help would be appreciated.

Rosemary

Ixcer is how we "Suffolkers" would prounounce Ixworth.

Hi

She was born in 1816, and married John Pryke.

That clears that up about the placename.  We have a town called Aspatria, but the locals there pronounce it  'Spee-a-tree'.  I suppose it could have been dictated to the man doing the census.  It is also on the census as Ickworth.  Is this also the same place?

Not really sure, but it looks like Hockham is just over the border in Norfolk. If you Google you will see some results.
