Hi Bulsara,
Charles Richard Sharpe is mentioned twice in The Times newspaper (from what I can find out so far). The first time it is on 30th June 1915 (issue 40894, page 6, col;C ) under the heading of "Ten Victoria Crosses, Brave Deeds From The Western Front". The second mention is under the heading "Obituaries" and is dated 19th February 1963 (issue 55629, page 13, col;A ).
Charles is also included a number of times on the VC site run by Iain Stewart which is
www.victoriacross.org.uk you will find that there is a picture of his gravestone on this site plus other bits about Charles.
As for a picture of him, have you tried contacting the local history studies librarian at Lincoln Library. The archives there hold back copies of The Lincolnshire Chronicle (1834-1959) and also The Lincolnshire Echo (1893- to present day) and they also have photographs of local worthies so you never know. If you do contact the library make sure that you go to the VC site mentioned above as there are other dates that you can include for them to search for you when looking for bits on Charles. For instance he attended a VC reunion dinner in 1929, plus a Victory Day celebration in 1946 and a garden party at the Palace in '62 so you never know. The library can be contacted via
www.lincolnshire.gov.ukYou could also obtain his medal card from the National Archives site at a cost of £3.50, he had two service numbers 7942 and 64567. Go to the campaign medals section for the 1st ww and place in his first and last name and one of those numbers and his details will come up. Details of how to obtain an imagine of the card is at the bottom of that page.
www.nationalarchives.gov.ukLastly, on one site that I went onto late last night one of its members raised the point that he had seen the memorial in Pickworth nr Sleaford and that they had misspelt Charles' surname by missing off the e at the end. Yet another member added that Charles had the nickname of "Shadda" (Shadow) Sharpe whilst in his unit. How true either of these statements are I do not know but every bit helps.
