99th regiment of foot 1879

i now have all the correct info i do hope there are people out there that can help me.the medal is a campaign medal dated 1879,his number i think is 2287 and the name private thomas samuel.the medal is silver and has a blue and orange ribbon.thanku for the help u gave and hopefully can give.xx

He's confirmed on the roll this time.

Still with the regiment at the time the roll was compiled (Sept 1880, Bermuda)
Name interests: Boulton, Murrell, Lock, Croxton, Skinner, Blewett, Tonkin, Trathen.

Both took their time to go through the medal rolls for you, themonsstar, for 24th Regiment of Foot and now Neil1821 for the 99th.

Sadly for the family story about Cetshwayo, the 99th were not at the battle of Ulundi or directly involved in Cetshwayo's capture.

They were however involved in Col Pearson's No.1 column (coastal column) that was beseiged at Eshowe and also in Chelmsford's relief column that fought the Zulus at Gingindlovu.

thanku all for your time and help.it does shed some lite on things,and have just found out that he wasnt involved in any battle  of sorts but was there after and that is where cetaway(or whatever)comes in.all this battle stuff is quiet confusing,and there were so many.thanks again.xx
