Marriage William Jackson Little Stukeley
« on: Tuesday 03 April 07 08:11 BST (UK) »
I would appreciate a lookup for William Jackson marrying Elizabeth Brown at Little Stukeley on 17 Oct 1768.

I am desperately trying to find out the following:

Williams birth date and place of birth
Williams Parents names
any information about Elizabeth Brown

I know this is a tall order, and would be very grateful for any help.
Many thanks Richard

Hi

Any marriage entry will not show his birthdate or place of birth nor will it show his parents names.  Fathers names did not appear on marriage entries until  1.7.1837 - mothers names are never shown

If he was over 21 at the time of marriage the entry will just show "full age"  If he was under 21 it may show his actual age (no guarantees)

But the entry should also provide the parish of residence at the time of the marriage (which is not the same as birthplace), and marital status eg bachelor or widower. Unfortunately Hunts Marriage Index has them as both of Little Stukeley, with no indication that either had been previously married.

As I said back in October, you need to check Little Stukeley parish register for their baptisms - perhaps someone has the microfiche transcription by Hunts FHS. If not you can either buy it yourself or order the microfilm from your nearest Family History Centre of the LDS - list at www.familysearch.org

Hi David and CaroleW

Many thanks for your replies

I have the microfiche from HFHS and William does not appear to have been baptised in Little Stukeley.

How do I get any further back or have I reached the end of the line? I have found on IGI a William Jackson baptised in Fletton in 1746 which I suppose could be the same one, but how do you prove it is the same William!!

Any tips you can give would be much appreciated.
Regards Richard

Hi Richard

It's an enormous leap of faith to link the Fletton baptism with the Little Stukeley marriage, and also bear in mind that the IGI entry is a member submission which I never trust.  Jacksons were two a penny at this time in Hunts, so it's going to be very difficult to pin him down - for example, there were 14 William Jacksons buried in Hunts between 1746 and 1780!

I think the surest way to prove who his parents were is if one or other of them left a will naming their son William Jackson of Little Stukeley. Did William leave a will?

Have you been through the parish chest entries in Lt Stukeley to see if there is any mention of him in connection with settlement certificates or removal orders?

I can't see anything obvious on A2A - http://www.a2a.org.uk/

Good luck

Regards

David

David

I think I was clutching at straws with the Fletton link. I will pursue the wills to see if one was left. Other than that I think I have come to the end of the road with the Jackson clan.

Many thanks for your help.
