Looking for a shop
« on: Tuesday 03 April 07 21:00 BST (UK) »
In the 1901 census it states my relative JOSEPH MONDAY was living at 67 Spencer Street, Hull. This was a shop that I presume he owned as it mentioned 'own account' under the employment column. He was a HAIRDRESSER.

Can anyone please see if you can find the name of the shop or find a photo? I have had a look but could only find it in one directory (Bulmer's East Yorkshire, 1892) where it only gave me his name and 'hairdresser'.

Thanks very much.

Hi there

Looked on Kelly's 1909  North & East Yorkshire, nothing listed there.

On Kellys 1912 & 1916, Joseph Monday is listed as Hairdresser at 62 Spencer Street.

He is not listed in Kelly's 1918

Thank you for looking for me. I think he may have run the hairdressers from his front room as I cant find a shop name.

Hi Janet,

Kelly's Directory for Hull in 1933 has a Joseph Monday living at 69 Portland Street, no mention of him being a hairdresser though,  if it's the same person maybe he had retired.
