Here is what I know
It is "believed" that she was illegitimate.
Date of birth C:-1890,possible in Tinwald?
Her mother was Annie McMinnies Beattie (dob 27 May 1871)born in Irongray,Kirkcudbright

Any information would be appreciated.

Hi Baldy

This looks like baby Margaret in the 1891 Census:

James Beattie    56, farm servant, b. Irongray
Annie M Beattie 19, daughter,  b.Irongray
Joseph W Beattie 11, son, b. Dumfries
James Beattie    9, son, b. Dumfries
Margaret Beattie 9 Mo, granddaughter, b. Dumfries

Address: Tinwald Downs Wd, Dumfries

This is Margaret's birth entry on SP, but from what you say, it is likely to show simply mother's name:

1890   BEATTIE   MARGARET HOLMES   DUMFRIES/DUMFRIES   821/00 0274

Thankfully, it's likely that Margaret used her middle name Holmes for her marriage registration  :) One possible marriage entry in Glasgow:

1929   PYLE   WILLIAM   BEATTIE   MARGARET HOLMES   BLYTHSWOOD   GLASGOW CITY/LANARK   644/10 2134

Certainly worth checking to see whether Margaret put down a name for her father if she knew what this was (assuming it is the correct Margaret of course  ::)).

No death entry showing for Margaret with these names, not surprising given her birth year and cut off year - 1956 - for deaths on SP.

Hi Baldy

The address is as indexed unfortunately. I don't know if the original image might be more revealing. Other addresses on the same page include 'Sign Post' (big help!) and Grove Cottages.

The full refs for the Beattie entry are:

Hi Baldy, I just posted a reply to your other thread RE: William Gillespie and Janet Callender Beattie. It may be of interest that in my reply I mentioned that Janet Callender Beatties mother is shown as Margaret Holmes on her marriage certificate. Hope this helps.
