Hi Andi

I believe Charles Finch may have married Mary Day in the June quarter 1859 in Biggleswade registration district ref 3b599

Joseph stayed with his aunt on a pretty permanent basis as he was still there in 1901 as a 40 year bachelor

Fragile I think is the term. Not beer though. White wine.

Got family over here at the moment so going out for the day doing the tourist thing. Won't be able to do a lot until Monday.

Happy Easter

David

Mornin' David and John,
Welcome John - I need all the help possible with these Finch's!
Thanks for the help - kind of glad this family has started to bug someone else other than me - thought I was just looking in all the wrong places and generally being more of a novice than I would have liked!!
Just wondering - I have the William and Mary 1851 census and after hours of deliberation, and with many other eyes than just my own two, decided that William's occupation was a Woods Man - am I correct?
Also, I was contacted yesterday from someone who has vague info that Samuel married a Sarah registered in Middlesex in 1881... their offspring include a William, Charles, John and George ... prob moved close to sister Naomi  ... will look into it first!
Have a Happy Easter anyway
and enjoy the vino David!
Regards Andi :)

I think I've dropped all my spanners now ...

1841 living in Southill
HO107/9/16 folio 13 page 23

William Chambers, age 39 ; Thatcher
Mary Chambers, age 38
George age 17, William 15, Sarah 13, James 11, Samuel 9, Charles 7, Mary 5

So, William Finch married this Mary Chambers...... after William Chambers above died.

David, I prefer red wine - keep that in mind ...

Cheers John

Something funny going on with this lot!

Look at extracted marriage of Emma Cox 27 March 1847 at Southill.

To George Finch or Chambers, father William Finch or Chambers

There's a marriage in Clifton (which is where Mary gave as her birthplace in 1851) on 27 Sept 1823 between William Chambers and Mary Peck. And an extracted baptism of Naomi Chambers in Southill on 17 Sept 1843, dau of William and Mary. Bet that's why I couldn't find any Finch marriages - they were Chambers!

There's a William Chambers baptised at Southill on 6 July 1794 son of George and Elizabeth, the same day as Sarah and George (but the parish register describes them as "of riper years" so perhaps this is a red herring)

Just had a quick look at the BVRI and there seem to be other correlations between the baptisms of children of William and Mary Chambers in Southill and the named children of William and Mary Finch in the 1851 census.

I'll go through them over the weekend and post details. Can't work out why they should have been Finch or Chambers though - but I think John has provided the clue which is going to crack the problem

Regards

David

PS Just seen John has posted two replies while I've been typing this - Naomi Chambers is extracted, not a member submission, and is also on the BVRI

Don't agree with a second marriage - I think William Chambers = William Finch

Needs more work though, but not tonight.

Preference noted John!

OK, can't leave this up in mid air!

BVRI
Children of William & Mary Chambers baptised at Southill

Samuel 15 Apr 1832
Charles 25 Jun 1837
Marianne 25 Jun 1837 so either or both Charles and Marianne could have been a late baptism

There's a burial of William Chambers age 51 at Southill on 17 Feb 1853

And this time I really am calling it a day before JP can post a follow up! (But he already has!!!)

David

bon nuit ,,,,

William Finch marriage in Biggleswade RD in June 1849 vol 6 page 101 (on FreeBMD)  one female on this page named is Eliza Massey, ties in with IGI entry of 05 MAY 1849, plus 1851 census entry of William Finch age 25 born Clifton ; Woodsman  & wife Eliza age 22 born Southill.

Is this is the William Chambers I found on 1841 census entry ?
