Richard Dudley 1782/3
« on: Friday 06 April 07 18:57 BST (UK) »
Can anyone please help me with the above Richard Dudley. Born Chelmarsh, Shropshire in 1782/3. I beleive his parents may have been Adam Dudley1760 and Ann Walford. If these are his parents did he have siblings etc, etc. ?
Any information on the family would be gratefully appreciated. Where did they live what was their work etc.

Hello again eric

On the IGI I can see a Richard Dudley with parents Adam Dudley & Ann, but baptism date is 28 April 1793.  It's an extracted record, by the way.

Other children of Adam and Ann:

William 6 June 1786
Lucy 12 January 1788
Sophia Mary 6 January 1792
Samuel 8 May 1795
Adam 4 March 1797
Hannah 25 June 1799

All extracted records.

You would need to check out Chelmarsh parish registers BUT I will warn you that baptism records for that period did not show mother's maiden names, so how anyone can research further back along the maternal line, I have no idea ???

Parish registers are held at the Shropshire Archives http://www.shropshire.gov.uk/archives.nsf

 Hello Jan,
Very many thanks, baptism records certainly help to put meat on the bones of family history, its probably the most accurate way of understanding the age of the persons we are trying to trace.
Once more many thanks, I am most greatfull.
Kind regards,  Eric.

Hi Jan,
I have now had time now that my visitors have left to go over the info you have so kindly sent me , I feel a little confused, it does appear from the info you have given me that maybe that my original  baptism date of April 28th 1783 for Richard Dudley.            [ parents Adam Dudley and Ann Walford] was maybe wrong. This would have resulted in Richard being born before their marriage of February 7 th 1785, which would not be so unusual. I also have a John Dudley baptised 21/3/1789 in my list of of children, in addition to the list of children you gave me.
Very many thanks I would like your comments, please. Regards, Eric.

Pete,
Very many thanks for your very imformative reply on the Dudley family. My apologies for the late reply, we've had visitors and they've taken up a little time, so family research has had to go on the back burner.
Whilst on the Dudley family, my Great Grandfather Richard Dudley, born 1822, baptised January 1st 1823, in the Census of 1871 was shown as schoolmaster and tax collector. Could you please enlighton me on what type of tax collector he was? [I realize it's a tall order] but I'm unable to find any information other than the Census of 1871. Any clues please?.
Many thanks , Kind regards, ERIC.
