Miriam Ruth Fuller, Sheerness c1832
« on: Saturday 07 April 07 10:45 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Is there anyone out there with access to the Sheerness or Sheppey Parish Records? My great, great grandmother was Miriam Ruth Fuller, born c1832 in Sheerness. Her father was James Fuller born c1792 possibly also Sheerness (or Sheppey), although her mother (Sarah Acworth or Ackworth) was born in Chatham in 1798. Any information about Miriam or James would be gratefully received.

I don't have a lot of resourses myself, but I do have the Wadworth (Yorks) PR 1575-1837 which I will gladly look up in exchange.

Regards, Jan

Hi -

I'm assuming you have Miriam's marriage and the family details on1841 census.  do you need any other census info?

Hi Graham,

Yes, I have all census records for James & Sarah and Miriam & Edwin, plus marriage certificate for Miriam & Edwin and death certificates for all 4. Thanks for asking, but I have access to census records, although finding the Fullers in 1841 was difficult as they were mistranscribed in Ancestry as Juller!! I was hoping to take the Fullers further back via birth details from PR, I can find marriage of James & Sarah and birth of Sarah on the IGI but nothing for Miriam or James.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Hi

KPM

Hi,

Thanks for looking for me. I was thinking of buying the PR cd from Kent FHS covering the Sheerness area, but thought I would try here first. It's not expensive if something comes of it, but an expensive mistake if it doesn't!! Miriam's census 1841-1901 consistently shows birthplace as Sheerness. Would the PR you looked at cover Sheerness, or could it be somewhere else? Unfortunately James died in March 1851 so just missed the census, which would have given me a POB. Sarah was born in Chatham as her census tells me, and they married in Rochester. It's possible James could have been born in either of these places, but then I would have expected his baptism to show up on the IGI.

Thanks again,

Regards, Jan

Hi Jan
I think the Kent FHS cd you're referring to, is probably the one I have.  However, this doesn't extensively cover Sheerness and Sheppey as I have checked it before for a baptism which wasn't on my CD and another Rootschatter managed to find it - I think they used some records on Fiche?   It may be that someone else may be able to help.

Have you tried the Cityark website for Sarah and James' baptism?

Sorry I wasn't able to help you more but if you need any further lookups for Sheerness please feel free to send me a pm and I'll see what I can find.

Thanks Anne-Marie, your reply has at least decided for me that at the moment there is no point in buying the Kent cd!! Thanks for the offer of further look-ups, and in the future I might take you up on it, but Miriam is my only link to Kent at present, the family moved on to Devon before finally settling in Hull. I am in Hull too, and Kent is way too far for a visit to the archives to look at microfiche, especially with a husband who isn't actively involved himself.

I have been researching for exactly a year (Easter), and I haven't heard of Cityark. I'll google it and check it out.

Thanks again.

Hi Jan

cityark.medway.gov.uk

Its a fantastic site - hopefully you will find Sarah and James on there.

I know how hard it can be when the other half doesn't have the same obsession!  My husband has absolutely no interest what so ever in either mine or his relatives but I can't complain.  We spent an hour driving around this afternoon trying to find a village where I thought some of my ancestors may be buried and he didn't complain once!!!  (We never did find it)

Good luck in finding Miriam

Neither Miriam nor Ruth were typical names of the time.  Have you investigated any Jewish connections?
