Extra Bonus!!
« on: Tuesday 30 November 04 04:26 GMT (UK) »

Today I found my 3rd Great Grandparents Stephen & Esther Read on the 1841 census for Gloucestershire.

I got an extra bonus I didn't expect. In the household with them was 94 year old Mary Read.

This was the first clue I had regarding Stephen's parents.

After a bit of checking on the IGI, I now know that my 4th Great Grandparents were John & Mary Read of Newent.

Everything fits - Stephen's 3 sons are called after his 3 brothers.

Success is mine! ;D

Darcy,

It is great when this happens isn't it.  ;D

I have had 2 useful leads from census information like this.

In one I had a Mother in Law staying,  I had no idea of the wife's maiden name until then.

In an 1871 census I have a man as a visitor with a family.  In 1881 he is married,  the wife's forename is the same as the oldest daughter in the 1871,  and she later appears with a son with the middle name that is the surname of the 1871 family.

I love it when they are this obliging.  Makes a change from all the one's who are hiding from the enumerator.  ::)
