Help!

I am trying to find information on William Crawford born about 1831 Middlesex I believe.  He married Jane Turner and they had 6 children. Alice, Emily, Maria, William, Frederick and my gt gt grandfather Arthur.  I know that they moved to Woodford between 1851 and 1861 as I have all the census returns from 1861 onwards, but as for before that I can't find anything.

Any help anyone can give me would be much appreciated.

Thanks Tina. ???

Do you know d-o-b's of children or date of marriage? By finding where they took place we may get a clue as to when and where they from.
How do you know they moved to  Woodford 1851-61?

Hi Tina

This is an old thread so this is a bit of a long shot. You were researching the Crawford family and one name in particular stood out for me. Jane Crawford, nee Turner appeared on the 1861 census in Islington. With other Turners next door. Now I think that they were in the same house (the census record shows the same street number) and bearing in mind their birthplaces I believe those other Turners (my direct ancestors) could be related. I would particularly like to know if you have any information about Jane's parents - who from the census record would appear to be William and Maria Turner.

Hi Tina

I know this is an old message but Jane Turner is my ancestor. I struggled to find a marriage for William and Jane but have found one in Carlisle. Did they run away to get married?

Crawford    William    Carlisle    10b    532
Turner    Jane         Carlisle    10b   532

There is no trace of any other marriage between William Crawford and Jane Turner at around the right time.

Best wishes

Mike

Hi

The earlier censuses clearly show the couple married well before the start of civil registration (probably in the early 1820s) likeliest counties Essex or Hertfordshire.

1851 census HO107 1502 folio 368
1 Prince Edward Street Islington
William Turner 56 Head Married Lab Ag Hoddesdon Herts
Maria Turner 46 Wife Married Roydon Essex
Charles Turner 22 Son Roydon Essex
Lydia Turner 13 Daughter Cheshunt Herts
John Turner 11 Son Cheshunt Herts
Jane Turner 9 Daughter Stoke Newington Middlesex
plus 2 lodgers

1841 census HO107 669/5
Brickfields Cottages Stoke Newington
William Turner 34 Labourer
Maria Turner 38
James Turner 16
Charles Turner 13
Henry Turner 11
Caroline Turner 7
Lydia Turner 4
John Turner 2
all born out of county

Essex is relatively poorly covered by the International Genealogy Index/Family Search - not coverage of Roydon for instance and many other parishes. Have you tried requesting a search from the Essex marriage index?
