Henry Stewart, 1st regiment foot

I'm looking for any information on Henry Stewart, born c. 1815, somewhere in England I believe, though he later worked in Edinburgh as a flesher (info from 1851 census).  He seems to have disappeared by the 1861 census, but his daughter's marriage cert. and wife's death cert. indicate that he was an infantry soldier in the First Regiment Foot. Someone (Kev?)  kindly looked up the Crimea records for me, but he doesn't seem to have been killed, though it looks like he was a soldier around that time. Could anyone suggest where else I might look? Thanks,

The 1st of Foot, is also the The Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment).
 Crimean War (1854-5) thay were at the battles of Alma,Inkerman, Sebastopol, in 1860 thay were in China.

Is there any way to find out more about the regiment and the men who fought in these battles? (Sorry, I'm not very well up on military history or searching military records.)
