where can i find details about KIA uncle
« on: Monday 09 April 07 22:20 BST (UK) »
hi everyone,
i have recently found my gt grandfathers attestation book where he names his brother as edward thompson of the 31st east surrey regiment who was killed in action in 1900,is there a site where i can find out where he was killed ?
also just to be cheeky ;D he also had 2 more brothers one called alfred thompson in the royal artillery and henry thompson in the royal marines, where can i find details about them?

i have tried the war memorials site but it appears to be for soldiers who fought in ww1 & 2

hope someone can help me.

Hi I know the Boer war was 1899 -1901 I believe. So it could have been that. Is there any thing written to the family about the death or medals. I am sure some expert on here will pick up on this and help you.
Do you have him on the 1891 census, where is he from etc. How old would he have been. The more info you can give the more people can help you. They are great on here.
Good luck

hi,i have him on the 1891 census age 14,sadly in  dec 1888 his parents henry and sarah both died and he and the younger children went to the westminster union school (workhouse),when my gt grandfather, edwards brother, william was 14 he was sent to the duke of yorks military school,i can only presume that this is what happened to edward too.

sorry i forgot to add that nothing was written to the family,as no one knew of any brothers ( or sisters)existence until i started research,my gt grandfather never mentioned any family members
the story goes that he was an orphan who didnt know his d.o.b,his middle name was valentine and he thought this was his birthday.
non of this rings true as i found a picture of him with his siblings when they were in their 30,s/40s!!
