Hi Hollie

There are a couple of possibles on the Scottish 1841 Census for Ayreshire.  Do you have any idea what Alexander's occupation may have been, it may help narrow the search down a  bit?

Im afraid i don't know about an occupation, but he does have some children.  A James Ramsay may still be living at home b.1825, as he didn't marry until the 1850's.  Other children may include:
Mary b.1816, John b.1818, Jane b.1821

Hi

There is a John born about 1817, married to a Wilhelmina, in Maybole.  No children or other family with them. 

The Alexander's that I found were :-

Alexander RAMSAY, Railway Porter aged 45 born Ayrshire, living Main Street, Kilwinning Ayrshire, with Jean aged 40, Hugh aged 15 and William THOMSON aged 15.

Alexander RAMSAY, Joiner, aged 45, born Ayrshire, living Patna Village, Straiton, Ayrshire, with Alexander aged 15,  Allan aged  5mths, David aged  14, Janet aged  11, Jean aged 35,  John aged 20, Robena aged 5,  Robert aged 4 and William aged 9.

Don't know if either of these are yours, sorry

This one looks quite likely:

Alexander RAMSAY, Joiner, aged 45, born Ayrshire, living Patna Village, Straiton, Ayrshire, with Alexander aged 15,  Allan aged  5mths, David aged  14, Janet aged  11, Jean aged 35,  John aged 20, Robena aged 5,  Robert aged 4 and William aged 9.

I believe my John b.1818 married Jane McDonald in 1849, so i don't think that can be him.
