Hi all  :)

not at all sure it makes any sense but the first line looks like show-room to me.
"My dear, I think the English pronounce it 'appiness"

I'm afraid of no ghost

I think it's "Front Room Foreman..." and Angina Pectoris.

Thanks again Sylviaann

Looks like he worked his way up then, he started off as a Cooper in a tea warehouse, so I am presuming (probably shouldn't) that he worked his way up the ladder in the same company.

Very different life from my other side of the family who were farmers in Sussex  :o :o

A Google for:
"angina pectoris"
(with the quotes) gets many hits including the following:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angina_pectoris

Another relevant photo is at:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/dmcl/47549729/
This is bomb-damaged Whitechapel 1940s (i.e. before that tea warehouse fire which has been mentioned).
Moving the mouse over the photo finds squares with explanatory words including one (just below St Paul's Church, Dock Street) which says 'Tea Warehouse built by Napoleonic War prisoners'!

Thanks JAP, more photos to distract me ;D ;D ;D

One day I must visit that part of London and go and see what's left.
