I am researching the life of John Henry CANDY, a doctor from Littlehampton in Sussex between 1828 and 1879. In the 1879 Provincial Medical Directory, he is described as 'Admiralty Surgeon and Agent; Medical Inspector of Seamen.'
Can anyone advise what these positions would have entailed and, perhaps more importantly, whether there is likely to be any record of his appointment and service in these roles?
