SESSAREGO
« on: Tuesday 10 April 07 17:27 BST (UK) »
I am trying to locate this family. I have evidence to show them in Mallow District. Giuseppe (Joseph) married Hannah Murphy. Ludovici (Louis) married Marie O'Hare. Children - Joseph, Louis - lots more! All around the 1850's - 1860's. Came from Italy, possibly stonemasons, possibly working on church buildings. Can anybody help with any info? Would be most grateful. ???

What a great name. Check the BMD indexes for it. It's unusual so if you find any, I would expect them to be related. 1864 onwards for all BMD, 1848 to 1864 for marriages if they were non-catholic.

These are available at the Dublin GRO (in person or Roscommon by post) or on film at your local family history centre. (Church of the latter day saints) http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asp for your nearest.

Thanks Kate. Unfortunately they were Catholic, and the marriages I am most interested in probably occurred just before 1864. The birth I am most interested in was about 1864, and so far I have found no record anywhere!

Hi vague1

Welcome to Rootschat -

I don't know whether you've seen the births for Louis Sessarego-29/6/1868 and Hannah Sessarego 11/3/1870 on the IGI index. The parents are Joseph Sessarego and Hannah Murphy.
As these births were after 1864 you could apply for a copy of a birth certificate which should give a location.
Then maybe write to the nearest parish priest to see if there are any baptism/marriage records.
Other than that - as Kate suggested- see if you can order the parish records on film through your local Latter Day Saints centre.

Here's the links for the IGI  and the GRO Ireland-

Hope this helps

Regards

I could find only 1 entry for Sessarego.
Birth registration in Mallow district for Louis SESSAREGO has parents as Louis Sessarego and Hannah (Murphy). Hannah was the informant. Was their residence Failand? I can't decipher father's occupation. Looks like ahlealer.*
Was father's name Louis a clerical error?

*Added. Joseph's occupation on 1901 & 1911 census returns was draper.

R.C. registers for Mallow https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0078
There are several overlapping sequences of baptism registers and marriage registers.

Did they move to Queenstown?

Joseph, Hanah & family were there in 1901 and 1911.
www.census.nationalarchives.ie
Joseph's occupation was draper.
1911 census Joseph & Hannah had been married 44 years. Hanah had borne 12 children, 7 of whom were alive.
