Surname interests Thanet/Medway

Swinnock, Springett, Twyman, Gurr, Marsh, Turner.

Just starting out my search so please forgive me!

My G-Granparents are:

Harry Swinnock married Elizabeth Springett in 1899. I believe she was born March 1880.

Arthur Twyman married May L Gurr in 1911.

Richard C Marsh (born 1894, died 1963) married Daisy Turner in 1920.

Any info you think will help me will be gratefully recieved.

Regarding ancestry in the Medway area, you are in luck because lots of the parish registers (baptisms/marriages/burials) for C of E churches are online:

It does take quite some time to look through them (you need to view each page separately) but here is the marriage of Harry SWINNOCK and Elizabeth Ann Ames? SPRINGETT to get you started

From this you can see their father's names and should be able to find them in the 1881/1891/1901 census.  Do please forgive if you already know all of this, just mentioning in case you don't

Regarding the marriages of Arthur TWYMAN to May GURR and Richard C MARSH to Daisy TURNER, these probably took place at the church of St John the Baptist in Margate - at least I think that is the church for ref. T14 (Thanet & Dover) on the Kent Registration Services site http://extranet3.kent.gov.uk/sp/rois/marriagesearch.cfm

I've checked MARSH against TURNER on the Kent Registration Services site, these tally - also found a record for TWYMAN but can't find the match for May Gurr. Perhaps i have the marriage wrong?

One other quick question if you don't mind - I can't seem to find a birth for Harry Swinnock - but have found one for a Henry Swinnock in the correct year. Is it possible that the registered birth name could be different to the one on the marriage certificate?

The GURR entry may have been misindexed ..................... try GU in the surname box and tick the "not sure" box.

Harry is a pet name for Henry so it is quite possible that he was registered as one but known by the other.  If you can find him on the census with his parents etc. and/or a baptism it may confirm or eliminate that there was just the one born in the appropriate area at that time.

Forgot to say i've double checked the BMD, Marriage between Arthur TWYMAN and May L GURR definitely Q4 1911 - same volume/page number.

Have found Elizabeth A A Springett in 1881 and 1891 as well as marriage of her parents in 1874. Both in Rochester.
