Help regarding a ancestor.
« on: Thursday 12 April 07 18:13 BST (UK) »
Hello. I am looking for information about my Great Great Grandmother Emma Cart. She was born in Orton in 30 Jul 1820 and married Isaac Haywood in 1853. I have traced her through some census records but cannot find her before 1861. She still appears aged 81 on the 1901 census living in sheepy magna (she had always lived in Orton on the hill before that) from what I can gather there is a death record in 1901 just after the last census listed in Atherstone.

As I am not from around that area are all three areas close together? Is there a hospital in Atherstone that she may have gone to to die? Also I cannot figure out why I cannot find her on the census before 1861. Her parents were Thomas and Elizabeth Cart.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me please?

Kind regards
LIZ

I found her in the 1851 census - she was transcribed by Ancestry as "Cast" - living with her parents in Orton on the Hill.  Do you want the full (proper) transcription?

This link to Google Maps shows that Orton on the Hill is close to Atherstone and Sheepy Magna.

On your other questions, I am unable to help, not being local myself, like  ;)

... but there is a list of Leicestershire parishes here
