dates and details plse

Hello all,
  The attached is a drawing by a soldier and I would love to know what dates and what battalions etc. Can anybody help plse?

Coldstream Guards, definitely!

The drawing does say 1848. Seems perfectly reasonable

  I presumed the drawing was painted in 1848 but I didn't know if the uniform was from the same period! Thank you for your help.
  And Anne - it is a lovely picture, isn't it? I think there is a tragic tale behind it but I am not sure what yet...

Hi Janine

The period of his uniform fits the mid-1840s period.  In fact I have just read that the the three Guards regiments of this period continued wearing the same uniform during the later Crimean War (1854).

I expect you noticed that he has the rank of Officer.
I hope you find out more background information on the 'tale' behind the picture, if so, come back and tell us, please.
