Look Up Request: Dumfries Deaths 1800-1841

Hi all

Could SKS look for the death of William Aitchison, a writer, husband of Mary Nicholson.  It could be any time between 1807 and 1841 at Dumfries.

Unfortunately there were no death registrations as we understand them today before the start of official registration in Scotland in 1855. If you have any idea where he may have died, it may be worthwhile seeing whether there may be a gravestone inscription (MI) recorded for him. You could also try contacting the local family history society at www.dgfhs.org.uk

Does anyone have access to the MIs for Dumfries itself?  I am now also looking for the MI for Joseph Nicholson June 1779.

As far as I know there are no published ones. However, I do know that the D&G Family History Society have unpublished one (link as on Monica's posting). If you phone or e-mail them, they might be able to help.

I do have access to the Kircudbrightshire parish ones, if you need a look up on those.
