Robert McLelland (or McClelland) cant find him pre-1861

I am looking for:
Robert McLelland born Wigtownshire 1818-19.
From 1861 onwards he lives, marries and dies in Shropshire, England but I want to know about his Scots roots.
I am just starting out at this, so would like suggestions or help.

Can't find him on the census 1841 or 1851 for sure though found same name and DOB in Argyll:  Campbeltown; ED: 7; Year: 1841
Occupation is Officer Of Exeris (anyone know what this is?) whereas my guy is a tailor all throughout the rest of his life.

I have tried FamilySearch and found three entries that might be him:
All Robert McClelland (not McLelland as in England)
Born  About 1819   Of, Wigtown, Wigtown, Scotland (no family info)
Christened 24 Aug 1820 (Batch: C118945, Printout call no 6901370) 
Christened 06 Dec 1818 (Batch C119012, Print 6901698)

But as the name is spelt differently and so can't be sure.

Margaret Foye      25              b. in county

I've found the following possible baptisms:

27 Feb 1820 Robert McClellan  parents - James McClennan and Elizabeth Mulnea, Stoneykirk

24th August 1820 Robert McClelland parents - Andrew McClelland and Agnes McKermick, Old Luce or  Glenluce

6 December 1818 Robert McClelland parents - John McClelland and Agnes Gardner, Wigtown

He just might have continued a variation of the Scottish naming conventions. In which case, Barbara's find on the 1851 with a son John, points to the strong possibility of him being the Glenluce Robert. Also, if he gave the correct age, the Feb 1820 one would be 31 and the 1818 one would be 32. It would be worth checking on the Scottish 1851 census to see if this one is there (or, indeed, any of the others) . If not, it's further evidence.

Not sure yet where the Woofe comes in, but there's a marriage for a Robert LELLAND with a Maria NOCK on same page

Just as an outside possibility, there's also a Robert McLelland, Dec quarter, 1842, Bridgenorth, Vol 18, page 43.

Page not complete - only other name entered is a Mary Laye.

It ties in with eldest son's birthplace

There is a Maria Woofe, married, aged 25-29, Much Wenlock in the 1841:
