Hi and welcome to rootschat :)

It would help get a reply if you gave some dates of birth (even approx) and the reason for posting...

for example are you trying to trace them backwards, or maybe looking for other Smith researchers?

I can see your problem ...  :D

Between 1885 and 1895 Notts FHS trancsriptions has 15 Walter Smiths baptised in Notts, 9 of them in or close to Nottingham....and that's not a complete index. It's a similar story on the 1901 census.

You are going to need their marriage certificate to give you a better idea of birth year, father's name and occupation and maybe some helpful witnesses! Any idea when and where they married?

Hi,

you can order certificates online at

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

First you will need a reference number which you can search for at

http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx

They will need to know year, quarter, registration district, volume and page number.

It may be as well to start with your father's birth. That will give both parents names.

At first glance I can't see a Walter Smith/Sarah Ellen Lowe match for Nottingham 1905. Though there are a Walter Smith and Sarah Ellen Morgan on the same reference number, which may be coincidence?

No trouble ...we've all been there and it's just a question of finding your way round. Before you know it, you'll be throwing money at your ancestors like it's going out of fashion  ;D

If you get stuck just shout up!
