Census Data, BMD, Misc. Indexes
« on: Thursday 22 April 04 08:42 BST (UK) »
go to www.census-online.com   and be prepare to be astounded !

There is all sorts of census data here, for U.S.A, Canada, and the U.K, divided up into States / Counties.
Amongst other things: workhouse censuses (includes inmates and staff) , lists of strays, village censuses (censi ??), Whites Directory, ...

Some of the data has been collected "privately" with special emphasis on particular family links, some seems to be general transcriptions of records.

Click on the U.K. countries list, and you even get a map of the counties, invaluable for overseas searchers (and even some british searchers !) .

UK  Transcriptions Web-site

Found this site today while browsing,   It was updated in July 2004 and it looks like an ongoing project.   Could be fairly useful to you..

Interesting site with offer of free lookups on certain Census's and VRI's. Results are emailed direct to your inbox.

One of the pages is Famous Victorians and where they were on Census night.

I hav'nt personaly used this site for lookups so don't know how reliable it is but for those of you who are having problems with 1881 or firewalls rejecting certain sites it might be worth giving it a go.

Wowzers on this link a database of ships!

http://web.archive.org/web/20100111080508/http://www.reach.net/~sc001198/Lloyds.htm

Here, you will find the registration details of a vessel such as the rigging, the tonnage, dimensions, propulsion, owners and her Master. These have been transcribed from the Lloyd's Register of British and Foreign Shipping from 1764 up to 2003, by Gilbert Provost with assistance from Pauline Joicey.
(New vessels are added continuously. Check often)

Census Leftovers
« Reply #7 on: Wednesday 08 September 04 09:47 BST (UK) »
This site is quite a good idea I find:

http//www.4trudy.co.uk/census link no longer available

Once you have downloaded the various pages from the 1901 census, you are invariably left with other families on the page, which may very well be of use to someone else. So you put your "leftovers" on this site.
