1901 census Fred Saxton
« on: Tuesday 17 April 07 20:44 BST (UK) »
I wonder if there is someone out there........ I must do this before that "Spook"/"Souls" programme comes on at 9pm.

I am looking for a Fred Saxton born Nottingham circa 1884 on the 1901 census. He should have the middle name of "William"and is the son of Henry and Mary Saxton. Better still I should like to know if he married subsequently. He was eventually killed in WW1 but I know nothing further, save that he died in France whilst serving with the Bedforshire Regiment (according to Harribobs).

I await some kind "soul" to come to my aid!

I see he's not with his parents in 1901.   There's a soldier in Portland:

RG13/1997 fol.90 p.14  Verne Citadel, Portland, Dorset
William Saxton  Soldier single 18  Private 2nd Northamptonshire Regiment b.Notts, Nottingham

This could be Fred or his brother William.....or not... wrong regiment I see  ???

Thanks for that. William Henry was my grandfather and I never heard that he went into the army. Harribobs only suggested the Bedfordshire Regiment being the most probable out of about six or so Fred Saxtons having died in WW1. Could he have been moved during the terrible conflict to replace others who had died before him?
Thanks for the reply.

Looked on www.cwgc.org Commonwealth War Graves Commission, there's a William Henry Saxton, civilian war dead, who died 4 Apr 1944 husband of Emily Mildred Saxton of 93 St. Alban's Rd, Dartford

maybe not related, but it's a very interesting site

Thanks for that. Sorry, I am a bit of a messy person. I am posting comments on the WW1 site too which may be a bit confusing. It always makes me feel extremely sad when I go to that site. There's not much information, few personal details, often age "unknown".......

I am raising this topic again.

I have a Gold membership of FR at the moment but cannot find many 1901 Census entries. Is this because FR does not offer the full contents of all census records?

Where is William Henry Saxton in 1901 born Nottingham c1882. His occupation was woodcarver and is known to have worked in St. Albans Cathedral and Lichfield Cathedral. I found the Portland entry but, knowing grandfather, I don't think he was the type of man to go into the Army. His brother Fred must be the Portland one as he died in WW1.

What was the percentage of people who did not register on the census?

Hi Judy,

I think I've found them. Was Mary E = Mary Ellen? (Answering my own question by yes. Mary Ellen Brown who marries Henry Saxton in Sep 1881, I suppose)

Oh, that's amazing, Tati. Thanks so much. I cannot believe I have been searching on FR for ages with, frustratingly, no results. Then I ask on RC and there it is. :D

You are an angel. ;D

Hello, I am here again.

After some time I have picked up the threads and am wondering where Fred Saxton is in 1911? ;)

He may have married or he may yet marry before he is killed in the WW1 conflict. which I know to be a fact.

Can anyone help me or, at least, give me some direction?
