Disappointed!
« on: Thursday 19 April 07 05:06 BST (UK) »
G'Day All!
Am now in possession of WW1 medal card,s for Paternal and Maternal G'Dad,s,or so I hope in the case of the Paternal one.
He didn't make it back,no details to go on except name, and guessed at Regt: His card only give,s award,s for two medal,s.Victory and British, which I understand is usual for K.I.A,S.
The only other note,s are reference no; alongside Victory,(roll and page no;)and his service number.
So how do I find more about this man?
All pointer,s welcome.
            Goggy. ;) ;D

Which medals he's entitled to is not related to whether he was KIA or not. It's related to whether he served abroad, served in a theatre of war, and served prior to 31 Dec 1915.

Have you got details from CWGC or SDGW?
Name interests: Boulton, Murrell, Lock, Croxton, Skinner, Blewett, Tonkin, Trathen.

Thank you Neil,no other detail,s except Medal card item,s.I must point out that this man is only guessed at,as mentioned,I had hoped for more info.
There is no 'theatre of war first served in',no enlistment date.Pretty sparse in fact!
However,he is not the only G.E. Kay to be investigated. As mentioned earlier, that is all the factual info I have.
Thank you again.

Well again, if you know your man is a KIA, you should be looking at CWGC and SDGW as well as the medal cards. These sources sometimes give helpful additional info.

G.E.Kay, what was his full name?
Name interests: Boulton, Murrell, Lock, Croxton, Skinner, Blewett, Tonkin, Trathen.

If he died in action there are often more details on the cwcg site (as mentioned by Neil) - for British servicemen they seem to include the service number, so you should be able to find him. It should include regiment, when died, where buried & perhaps parents and/or wife.

There seems to be no G E Kay - lots of G Kays and George Kays

Also try searching on 'British war memorial' website- sometimes there are soldiers killed listed there but not on CWGC. (can also search by service number).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Could be a CWGC error and the man be

 George Edgar Kaye
Pte 60074
North Staffs Regiment
KIA Cambrai
30/11/17.

This rank is on CWGC but no NOK listed SDGW gives enlistment and Residence Lepton which is up above Huddersfield somewhere

Ady
Lowe(Lower Gornall-Castleford)
Blackburn (Castleford)
Sidwell(Ledsham)
Fairburn(Hartshead)
Wood(Liversedge)
Tallon (Whittington Lancs/Hartshead West Yorkshire)

Researching all Great War soldiers from the Spen Valley of West Yorkshire Especially lads from the Cleckheaton Company of 1/4th West Riding Regiment.

Thank you all for your replie,s and pointer,s.
I know nothing militarily about this G'Dad except that he didn't come back.
No family tale,s that refer to military service, except his death 'over there'.
Detail,s of his civilian life I have, thats all.

The Medal Card,s now being sent for are from WO/372/11,those that died I thought, but will go to other site,s named for more result,s.There are three more G.E.KAY to check out yet!
Thank you all again.
