William Scott was born in Basford, Nottingham, in 1854.  He married in Salford in 1876, so I'd like to trace his family in Nottingham.  Could some kind person please look up the 1861 and / or 1871 census for him?

Great thank you - but do you think that means William's mother Elizabeth died, and Emma was Richard's second wife?

I was thinking the same after checking 1861 for Richard/Elizabeth (No trace)

Notts 1861 Piece 2438 Folio 66
East Row, off High Street, Basford
Richard Scott, Head Married, 29 Yrs Gardener b Basford
Emma Wife, 23 Yrs  born Basford

William is not with them but note same occupation.

Notts Burial Index
Elizabeth Scott,  7.1.1857. at Basford (St Leodagarius) 26 Years.

Notts Marriage Index

Richard Scott/Emma Mills 28.11.1859 at Basford.
There are no christenings shown to this couple in Notts

There is only one other Richard Scott in that area at that time and he is in my own line.

Hi
Notts Christening Index shows two Richards 2.5.1830 and 22.1.1832 both to parents, William and Ann Scott at Basford. There are five others born to what appears to be the same couple. In each case William's occupation is given as a butcher
