g'day from downunder
« on: Friday 20 April 07 00:34 BST (UK) »
g'day,

we are just joined so a big g'day to all.

anyhow so how does all this work, we have a fairly comprehensive family tree that has started where our forefathers left prussia/germany in the mid 1800 and arrive here in brisbane queensland on north stradbroke island which was the way it was back then.

we would like to attempt 2 things:

1.. see how far back we can trace our heritage.

2.. see if we can find missing data about recent and not so recent relatives in our tome ie.,. DOB's, marriages, births etc.,.

Hi Len,

A big welcome. I hope we can help you. With a queensland history you will be pleased to know that the Queensland BMD index has just come online free of charge.

http://www.justice.qld.gov.au/bdm/IndexSearch.htm

Any specific Australian Queries I suggest you visit the Emigrants to Australia board. We have members able to help with many things all round Australia,  and while you are there be sure to check on free resources listed for each State.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,165.0.html

As to your German Heritage it may also pay to check on the Immigrants Board as well.

You will find friendly people all over the world who will try to help once you make some specific posts.

Good Luck.............Kris  :D

G'day to you too and welcome to the most helpful board on line.
I have German rellies who came out to Queensland as well from Prussia.  Not that I think we are related - we may well be - but if you PM me we can compare notes.  Also if you post your familys info you will receive so much help it will be hard to keep up with it.
Happy hunting  :) :)
