Hinckley Union Workhouse Records

Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me with this please:

My GG Grandmother-in-law, Caroline Smith was born on 5/12/1846 in Hinckley Union Workhouse. I was hoping to find some workhouse records that might tell me a bit more but although I've looked at L&R Records Office I can't find anything useful for that period.

Does anyone know of any copies of the Workhouse records for this period and where I might find them?

(PS: I know that Caroline's mother was Ann Smith (from her birth cert) and that Caroline's grandmother was a Margaret Smith of Hinckley. I found Margaret and Caroline on the 1851 census but think Ann must have died.)

Since Hinckley is in Leicestershire, you might be lucky if you get in touch with the Leicestershire Record Office, website address is http://www.leics.gov.uk/index/community/museums/record_office.htm

I've contacted them a few times and they generally will accept queries regarding their holdings although, due to the volumes of queries they receive, they might take a couple of days of respond.  The staff there are very friendly and helpful.

They also have an online catalogue which might help.

I did try the records office but unfortunately I couldn't find anything useful there.

try workhouses.org they have the 1881 records fee to view online but they probably have the other records too

That is a very good website. Unfortunately it doesn't have anything new for Hinckley, they refer back to the Records Office again so I'm starting to think that's all there is.
