Help with McClinton's
« on: Sunday 22 April 07 22:14 BST (UK) »
Can anyone confirm That I have these right..
William McClinton 1780c married Margaret Laurie 1780c
                 son
James McClinton 1816 - 1875 married Ann Kyle 1819c 5.4.1832 Stoneykirk.
             Children
Agnes        1832
Margaret    1834
Ann            1836
Elizabeth    1841
John            1843
William        1845
These I know are correct
Twins  Grace 1847 - 1933  married Thomas Spence 27.4.1874.
           Hannah 1847.  married James Ambrose.
GRACE put her name as Mclinton on marriage certificate.

These I am not sure about.
Margaret 1834 married Michael Mullen 1828c
Did Margaret have a Child Helen McClinton 1858 and a son William  Mullen1868.
Ann 1836 married a William Hunter 1831 and have a Child Ann Hunter 1855.
Also is it the same Michael Mullan & Margaret Mullan on 1881 census with a Lodging House in Alnwick.with children Jane Mary William Rose and Margaret.
So many McClinton's not to sure that I have got mixed up.

Hello

I believe that the Mgt. McLinton that maried Michael Mullen on 17/2/1853 at Old Luce was the daughter of Thomas McClinton and Martha Jolly. In the 1861 census she was living next to her mother with son Peter aged 7 and daughter Martha ages 2, both born in Northumberland.  Thomas was probably the brother of James = Anna Kyle but I have not proved this yet.

Hi Helen

I have William Mullen 1868 married Annie Burns
                Daughter
Mona Mullen 1902 married Norman Jewitt 1880
they had a son in 1930
I presume these are now nothing to do with my McClinton's

Hi

I'm afraid that I haven't followed the Mullens - but I have just found Thomas McClinton/ McClintock's death on Scotlandspeople  - and his parents are listed as William and Mgt. Laurie so I have made a little progress.
Also found three more siblings for Thomas & James i.e. Mgt. 1814, Wm. 1819 and David 1823.
Thomas was born in Ireland and I have not had the time to really research there but retirement is looming..........

Could this be William McClintock (and many many variants) in the 1841 census. All the children showing as born in the County:

William, 60, agr. lab., b. Ireland
John, 14
David, 12
Maro, 4

Address: Milmain, Stoneykirk

Regards.

Hello Janice

According to the 1861 census James was born in Stoneykirk around 1809 and Anna at Kirkholm in 1814.
The siblings I found were born in Stoneykirk. The family must have come to Scotland around 1804 - 1808.

Ah I see Monica has just posted a note on 1841 census - this may be our William but I think the "children" are in fact grandchildren.

Hi Helen

The children did seem a tad young to be William's children!

James and Ann's 1851 entry in case you don't have this, everyone showing as born in Stoneykirk:

James McClinton 30, lab.
Ann McClinton    32
Elisabeth McClinton 10
John McClinton    8
William McClinton 6
Grace McClinton 4
Hannah McClinton 4

Address: Cabrach, Inch

Regards.

Monica
