That's a novel explanation  ;D  ;D  - Best not tell ancestry or they will add it to their automated answer system  ;D

That might explain why I do a search and get nothing, do exactly the same search some days later and get results then.  ::)

There's definitely something funny going on at the moment!

Anna

Like you, I searched for a named person, born in Middlesex in just one census yesterday and got the correct name, but not just Middx, so had to plough through them all!  I was also searching for an entry on the 1881 census that I knew I had seen previously, but didn't record the citation numbers and now I can't find it.  Surely just the man's name would be there, but no it isn't.

I hadn't thought of just using Ancestry.com why should the US version work and not ours, when it's our census we're searching?  Totally loopy.

Liz, this is happening to me too - not consistently, but often.  It just seems to ignore the birthplace info one puts in.

Unfortunately ancestry.com is not immune to the same problem - the other day I was looking people up in the US censuses, and once again the search results did not prioritise those born in the state I had entered (which, given the enormous population of the US, makes it well nigh impossible to trawl through the results for all but the most unusual names!).

Grrr... ::)

I know.  But for all its quirks I have got more value out of that particular subscription than any other (especially as many of my lot emigrated to the US - wouldn't have found my ggg-grandparents without it!)

Sigh ;)
