Jex name

Been trying to find out where the name Jex came from , going back along my line to Norwich it was wrote down as Jeckes.

Someone said it was when two brothers came over from France and settled after 1066, but cant find any evidence of this.

can anyone help

Hi Sandra46,

I've got some Jex/Jecks Drews from Leiston/Aldeborough area in my family (Jex = middle name over several generations) and I'm imagining that the Jex name was kept in the family.

Have you come across this in your research?  Interested to read that the Jex name could have come from Huguenots called Jaques/Jacques...have you found out anything about that?  Wonder how they ended up in Suffolk/Norfolk...

Any info you have or links you could point me in the direction of would be greatly appreciated.
