Catherine Jones
« on: Tuesday 09 March 04 04:37 GMT (UK) »
Hi Everyone  ;)

I have just received a copy of a letter written in 1994, to my GGrandfather , John Williams who migrated to Australia in1855, from one Catherine Jones.
My ggrandfather died in 1913 but this letter wasn't translated until 1944. The peoples names are clear but the towns aren't which is very frustrating, so I will give you the information I can read.
She writes about on this day jan 25th 1894 they buried Aunt Linah at Rhydy???.( unreadable)
Catherine had been married 4 years.
Her husband ( no name) was related to Harry Hughes of Cri??(unreadable)
At the time of writing her address was Pont Carreg, Llan?? ( again unreadable)
Sorry I can't be more helpful,,but imagine how frustrated I am, not being able to read it! I am hoping someone will recognise some of the peoples names.

cheers
Tassie ;)

Thanks Gill, I am sending a copy of this translated letter to Trystan.
The name now looks like  Bont Carreg, Llanrhaeadr.
The other looks like either Rhydyailbryn, Rhydyailfryn or Rhydysilwyn!  ???

Will have to see what Trystan makes of it.
Thanks
Tassie  :)

I am told by Tassie that it is the "Rh...." place name we are trying to identify now too - in the image below it is the last word:

At least we have Garreg Bont. Will think about this one as it's not immediately apparent. There might be a error in translation
