I have just come back from Ireland, where I spent 3 weeks, mostly in Dublin.
I went up to Enniskillen for 2 days and tried to find out something about Catherine Riley and her family.
I spoke by phone to the parish priest at Ervinestown, which covers the area around Whitehill. He had no births before 1847 and the Rileys that he had did not seem to be familiar names.
I was referred to the Town Clerk at the Town Hall, who is considered to be an expert on local genealogy. He was of the opinion that Catherine was not necessarily from the Ervinestown area, as there had been 'grand' houses at Whitehill, Laragh and Ballycassidy, which would have employed a number of girls and young men at that time.
He arranged for me to meet a reporter and photographer from the local paper,
"The Unbiased Reporter" and I told Catherine's story to them.
The article was to appear on Thursday 4th. Nov., which was the day I left Dublin, so they promised to send me a copy. I asked anyone with information to contact me by post or email.
There don't seem to be any relevant records left so it looks as if this is the only chance of getting any further.

Thanks Aghadowey. People in Enniskillen were very helpful, and if there's anything to find, I'm sure we'll find it.

Has any one out there any very old photos of Catherine Riley when she loved in Lauriston/Malmsbury - would love to know if any of her ancesters have any stories or photos that I could add to my family tree?
Also  am searching for photos of Robert Perrett who lived in Lauriston and Malmsbury, he was a councillor of Kyneton and is my great grandfather, have a lot of history but we desperately need photos, wonder if any one has anything at all, it would be so good - his son James Perrett married Agnes Dunlop who was a grand daughter of Catherine Riley,
Hope I have some luck, thanks Marcia

Thanks for the reply Gayle, isnt it annoying when you get so far and then a brick wall,  I would dearly love to know Catherine Rileys Mother and Fathers name and have done a lot of research also with cousins who are doing the family tree but to no avail - but will contact you if we ever find anymore out - who are you connected with Gayle?
once again thanks,
Marcia
