Karen,

There are no rules to a montage , its down to your creativity.
You can make them formal , like framed pictures on a wall . Or cut the figures out and make them into a crowd scene.
If you are lucky enough to have loads of photos , spread them out on a table and look to see which are the most usables ones , move the others aside. The ones that are left , move them around until they look 'right' .
Try them in generation order or all of the male or female line , see which appeals , to you !

It's all a matter of taste !

Have fun with it  :o ;D :D

Hi Karen

I have been doing family history for about 2 years but am also new to digital scrapbooking. I discovered this only recently and really love it - as you say it fits really well with the family history stuff. You get an interesting and colourful book backed up with a file of documents. My children's eyes glaze over when I show them the latest document I have found but they find the books much more interesting.

I use 12" x 12" scrapbooks, purchased from costco, and photoshop elements. Photoshop has templates which you can insert all kinds of relevant stuff into and anything from one to 21 photos. I am organising my book first of all by date and then by place or occupation. I have an ancestor who worked on the East Indian Railway so I have a page with a photo of the family, a map of india and a diagram of the railway tracks in Bengal. I also have a page for the three generations of boilermakers in the family. The soldiers in the family have their photo, their medal cards and a photo of their medals on their pages. My husband used to be in the merchant navy so his page has all the ships he sailed on.

It is totally addictive and I spend far too much time working in photoshop. I justify it by saying it is something my children can keep and carry on if they are so inclined.

Its nice to find someone else following the scrapbook route.

Regards

Ruby

It's really lovely for you to present photos with all the relivant details and stories attached .
I am very proud of a panoramic photo that i produced with five generations of women from my daughter to my great grandmother with dates of births spanning from 1996 - 1886
