Mary Ann Holdroyd born 5 April 1828 daughter of John & Mary Holroyd was baptised with 3 other family members (Martha, Henry & William) at Huddersfield on the 31 March 1837.

It looks like you should be looking at Huddersfield and not Kirkheaton. If John's death was in the one in 1875 and with them looking like C of E he would have been buried at Huddersfield Edgerton Cemetery or Lindley St. Stephen's.

Hello
Thank you for the reply i have not been able to find those baptisms could you tell me where they were at please. The john holroyd who died in 1875 was not mine .my john died between 1851 and 1861 as he disappears off census and family have moved to elland upper edge.
There are quite a few john holroyd deaths in those 10 years so i cant pin him down.
On 1851 census he states his bithplace as kirkheaton so i just go off that .
Yhanks again lee

Hello
Very helpful post about john oldroyd 1798 kirkheaton to martha. She also had a son named thomas holroyd/oldroyd b1786.
The lodger at john holroyds house in 1841 and 51 is the son of this thomas who is living at heaton with daughters martha  and sarah.
All fits together. On mary anns marriage certificate she states her father as john oldroyd .
I just have to find out marthas husband now and can trace back further .
Thank you.

Mary Ann and the other 3 children were baptised at Huddersfield St. Peter's, which is where John married Mary in 1822, so could be an other child.

Martha might not have had a husband or she might have married after 1798.

I have looked into Holroyd's and you have try several surname variations you could also try using b instead of l ie. Hobroyd.

I noticed Kirkheaton on the census, the other baptisms are for born Lepton which was part of Kirkheaton Parish.

Hello
Thanks again for your input ,there are at least 2 more children as they are on the 1841 census sarah and william. If martha was unmarried do you think it would show on the original baptism that she was a spinster.

Hi

If she had been married when John was baptised in 1798 it would have given the fathers name so with on fathers name you have to assume that she was not married. You sometimes get a reputed father but not this time.
