Oakwell hall ( anyone know of this?)
« on: Monday 30 April 07 12:21 BST (UK) »
My Nan apparently died at Oakwell Hall Hospital in 1964.
I was told it was a geriatric hospital...Can anyone confirm this please and does anyone know where I would get hold of information from this place.

Any help would be appreciated thankyou

Hi,

I couldnt find any reference to an Oakwell Hall Hospital but if you search on google for "oakwell hospital" you get a link to the national archives for records for a Oakwell Hospital, Batley, Yorkshire.

Hope this helps

In addition to above it was a geriatric hospital after 1848 so looks like where you are looking for

Oakwell Hall still exists it is in Birstall on Nutter Lane, nr Bradford, West Yorkshire. If it is the same place it is open to tourists like a national trust property!!! Try the link below if this doesnt work try typing it into google.

Oakwell Hall does still exist but it is not the same place as Oakwell Hall Hospital.  The hospital was built in early Victorian times and it served as an isolation hospital until about 1948 when it became a geriatric hospital.  It was demolished about 1969/70 to make way for the M62 motorway.

Oakwell Hall is totally separate to Oakwell Geriatric Hospital. Oakwell Geriatric Hospital was still open as a Geriatric hospital in the mid eighties. It definitely wasn't all demolished to make way for the M62 in the seventies.
Oakwell Hall is part of Oakwell Country Park.
