"Walters" Wednesfield area
« on: Tuesday 09 March 04 16:49 GMT (UK) »
Seeking information on John and Sarah Walters . Their daughter Elizabeth was born in Wednesfield, Staffords. in1831. She married John Jones and subsequently moved to .Great Torrington, Devon.Have found two John Walters on 1881 census, one from Gnosal, Staffs and the other from Bilston, both late 80's (age). Are either of these places near Wednesfield? Not sure where to go from here. Any help appreciated.

I don't think that either of those places are too far from Wednesfield.
Ithink that the nearest 'big' place to wednesfield is Wolverhampton.

Hi there louisa

According to the Pigot & Co's British Atlas of the Counties of England - dated 1840:
Bilston is about 2 miles South of Wednesfield in Staffordshire
Gnosal is between Newport & Stafford, about 25 miles North from Wednesfield.

Hi Louisa.
Ref Walters of Wednesfield. I do have a Fanny Walters who later married a George Hayward on April 26th 1880. Fanny being 24 . In the  1881 Census Fanny and George are living at 75 Salop Street Bilston. Fanny is given as being born in Willenhall about 2 mile East of Wednesfield and also listed as living with them is her mother Mary Walters aged 46.
On the marriage cert at St Thomas of Dudley her father is given as Henry Walters Miner.
Hope this is of some help.
Regards Trev.

Gosh Trevor. Many thanks. I'm going to have to take a deepbreath and try to sort it all out. Its like a giant jigsaw fitting all the bits and pieces together. Didn't really expect to get any response but have even found an unknown cousin in Australia who was related to Eliz. Walters. Are you connected to the family or are you just "helping out"? In any case, thanks again. I'll try to get back to you when I've assessed it all. with much appreciation Louisa.
